Acomplia and rimonabant
The French company Sanofi-Aventis created a drug called rimonabant –an anorectic anti-obesity medicine also known by the Sanofi trademark name of Acomplia. The new drug is deemed as one of the leading weight loss pills in the world, making it a rather popular medication. Currently, this drug is sold in several countries, including Great Britain and other European nations. Albeit advertised as a weight-loss pill, Acomplia has been shown in select studies to have positive effects on various heart ailments. The drug is currently under review for approval in the United States, and it is highly likely that the drug will be marketed in the U.S. due to the large market ready for the drug.
Acomplia offers a lot of advantages, especially for those who have an unhealthy body mass index (BMI). With obesity being one of the leading causes of death the world over, drugs such as this give hope to those who are obese due to certain illnesses or due to genetic inheritance. The weight-loss pill also helps those who lead a very sedentary lifestyle to lose weight, even if they do not engage in a regimented exercise routine.
The medication can outperform other slimming pills aside from its potential benefits. Studies have shown that Acomplia increases HDL levels while reducing bad cholesterol –something that other weight-loss drugs cannot do. This is also the main reason why the medication is prescribed to people who have type II diabetes, as it helps users with losing weight, the number one cause of the disease. Select studies have also shown a possible value in using the drug in smoking-cessation therapy.
According to clinical studies, those who have taken the pill lose on average 10 percent of their body weight and were able to keep their weight down for a period of two years. |
